Minato Mirai Line Information
An underground railway line that connects the Motomachi-Chukagai Station in Central Yokohama to the Yokohama Station, this relatively new construction was opened to the public in the month of February in the year 2004. As is suggested in the name, this route has been implemented primarily to better serve the redeveloped city district of Minato Mirai 21 which previously lacked a convenient means of access to the central transportation network in Yokohama. With a service that operates as far as Motomachi-Chukagai, this new route has also helped in improving connectivity to places such as Yamate-Motomachi District, Yamashita Park and Yokohama Chinatown.
This line is also the best means of transportation available to the tourists who wish to access the popular tourism destinations around the harborfront. If you are looking to transfer between the Shinkansen Station and central Yokohama, then the main subway line proves to be extremely useful. For the Minato Mirai areas and Chinatown, there is also the alternative JR Negishi Line that you can travel along.
With the inauguration of the Minato Mirai Subway Line, train services now run between Motomachi-Chukagai and the Shibuya station in Tokyo while passing the central Yokohama district along the way. The fact that services to the Sakuragicho station, which was previously a terminal station, has been discontinued is the only inconvenience produced by this new route.
