Mashhad Urban Railway Information
The Mashhad Urban Railway network is a rapid public transportation rail line running through an urban stretch in the Iranian city of Mashhad, the second of its kind in the country. It commences daily operations early in the morning but does not run late into the night unlike its European contemporaries. While the service is only a single-line network at present, two more lines are under construction and two more are planned. The 24 km long line which serves 24 stations has a daily ridership of 130,000(2015). Under the ownership of the Mashhad Municipality, it began operations 5 years ago in the year 2011.
Mashhad Urban Railway Timings, Frequency and Schedule
From Saturdays-Thursdays, the first train is at 06:00 am in the morning, with the last train being between 22:00-22:30 pm. On Sundays and other holidays, the trains begins operations slightly later at around 07:00 am in the morning and again runs till around 22:30 pm.
The trains have a headway of 4 minutes.

Mashhad Urban Railway Fares, Tickets and Cards
Ticket system is categorized in two types. Stored Value cards costs 5,000 RIs. It is suitable for passengers who make regular trips on irregular times. It gives a benefit of 60% when compare to the Magnetic tickets. People who travel rarely on irregular times the Magnetic Ticket is useful.

Mashhad Urban Railway Lines
Construction work began on Line 1 close to the end of the last century and was inaugurated almost a decade later in the month of April in 2011. This line stretches over a distance of nineteen kilometers and features twenty-two stations along the route length. Line 1 helps connect the southwestern region of Vakilabad to the eastern territory of Nakhrisi with travel time along the stretch taking half an hour to complete. While half of the route is an underground service, the other half is at ground level. There are 2 more lines under construction and 2 more planned. Line 2 is expected to be 14.5 km long, serving 13 stations in total. It plans to increase connectivity till upto Fakouri Boulevard. Line 3 is an ambitious project, planning to stretch 28.5 km long and serve 24 stations in total. Construction of this line is progressing at a steady pace. The proposed Line 4 will be 17.5 km long, serving a total number of 15 stations.
