About Delhi Metro
The Delhi metro began operations on 24th December 2002 and is a rapid transit system that serves Delhi, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Noida in National Capital Region (NCR) of India. In the year 1995, the Delhi Government and Government of India, together set up the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The network has a system length of 190 km over 6 lines plus one Airport Express line, and serves 141 stations of which 6 are Airport Express stations. In terms of track length, the Delhi metro is world’s thirteenth largest metro system. The metro service is also connected with feeder bus service, which provides access to various areas in the cities.
The Delhi metro recorded its highest ever ridership on 19th August 2013 when 2,606,364 people used the metro. Expansion plans on various lines are underway, and the total system length is expected to reach 295 km by the year 2016, making it one of the fastest growing metro networks in the world. The metro also follows environment friendly practices that have fetched them awards from various international organizations including the United Nations.

Delhi Metro Route
Delhi Metro has various routes on its 6 Different Routes which are :
- Red Line (Dilshad Garden till Rithala)
- Yellow Line (Jahangirpuri till HUDA city center)
- Blue Line (Noida City Cetre till Dwarka Sector 21 / Yamuna Bank till Vaishali)
- Green Line (Inderlok till Mundka / Kirti Nagar till Ashok Park Main)
- Violet Line (Central Secretariat till Badarpur)
- Airport Express Line (New Delhi Till Dwarka Sector 21 via IGI Airport)

Delhi Metro Timings
The metro services start at 6.00 am and continue till 11.00 pm. On the Airport Express line, the services start at 4.45 am till 11.30 pm. (last drop off). The frequency of the trains is about 2-3 minutes during peak hours and 5-10 minutes during off peak hours.
The Exact First Train and Last Train timings vary according to each Station.
Delhi Metro Fares
A ticket which is either a card or a token can be purchased from the ticket counters. These tokens and cards are required to open the gates, to reach the paid areas that lead to the platforms. The tokens are valid for single journey and have to be dropped in a machine while exiting. They have a fare range of Rs. 8/- Rs. 42/-.
Frequent commuters can purchase a Travel Card that can be purchased for a minimum payable amount of Rs. 100/- out of which Rs 50/- is the refundable security. The card can be further recharged to a maximum of Rs. 1000/- and minimum of Rs. 200/-. The card is valid for a period of 10 years from the purchase date or one year from the last recharge date, whichever is later. It can be renewed for Rs. 5/-.
The tourists can buy a Tourist Card that can be used for unlimited travel for one day or three days. A one day card costs Rs. 150/- out of which Rs. 50/- is the security deposit. 3 day card costs Rs. 300/- inclusive of the Rs. 50/-as refundable security.

Delhi Metro Stations
Currently, Delhi Metro has 142 Metro Stations spread over Six Lines, out of which 35 Metro Stations are underground and rest are elevated. Delhi Metro Rules and Tips
The security operations are carried out by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which employees over 3500 CISF personnel to look into the security of the metro system. Each train’s first coach is reserved for Women.
The tickets can be inspected at any point of time by the Metro personnel. If caught travelling without a valid ticket, the fine is Rs. 50/-.Smoking, drinking and eating is prohibited inside station premises and metros. Carrying flammable material, firearms and explosives is strictly prohibited. It is punishable up to 4 years of imprisonment and a fine up to Rs. 5000/-. Pets are not allowed inside the metros. Maximum baggage capacity allowed is 15 kg, not exceeding 60*45 cm.
The metro also offers park and ride facility at various stations, for a fee. It can be used up to few hours for daily purpose and facility for monthly parking is also available. The parking is available for cars, two wheelers and bicycles.

Delhi Metro Museum
Delhi Metro has set up a one of it’s kind Metro Museum at Patel Chowk Metro Station that showcases the various achievements, Photographs and useful information about Delhi Metro. It is south asia’s first museum dedicated to rapid metro transport systems. One can buy souvenirs like pens, books etc. from the metro museum. Delhi Metro museum open daily except mondays, between 6 AM and 11 PM. One is required to buy token to enter the station in order to visit the museum.
Bicycle Rental at Delhi Metro Stations
Delhi Metro offers bicycle rental facility at Patel Chowk, Vishwa Vidyalaya, Indraprastha and Pragati Maidan stations, after producing a photo identification card. The rental is of Rs.10 for every four hour and the bicycle is meant to cover short distances from the metro station.
